Ice Fishing - Tips
By A Art
Ice fishing is a sport that has been growing in popularity recently. This is thanks to much more media exposure. There are now websites, magazines, and even television shows dedicated to this type if fishing.
What makes it unique is, as its name implies, you are literally fishing through the ice. You drill a hole in it with a piece of equipment known as an ice auger and fish through the hole using a special type of rod. If you know what you are doing, you can be very productive with ice fishing.
One of the most important pieces of equipment with ice fishing is your ice shack. Sometimes called an ice hut or and ice shanty, an ice shack is any type of enclosure that surrounds you while you are fishing and protects you from the elements. Now, to get one thing straight, you do not necessarily need one of these to ice fish. However, keep in mind that you will be out in the cold in the winter time and there is almost always some type of wind blowing out on the ice. After thinking this over, it makes you think twice about going without an ice hut.
You will also want to have the proper cloths for ice fishing. You are not going to be very comfortable in the normal winter cloths you wear every day. Some folks thing that if a particular coat or jacket keeps them fairly warm when they go to the store or when they are shoveling snow, then it would be good enough to wear fishing. When you are ice fishing, it is going to be so cold for so long that you will want to make sure you buy special gear designed for prolonged exposure to cold temperatures.
Fishing organizations are great places to learn about fishing.
