Indiana Fishing Report 07/29/2011
Raccoon Lake: Fishing is poor. A few small crappie being caught.
OHIO RIVER: Blue catfish are in 45-50 feet of water, right on the channel ledges. They liked shad heads, cut shad, and big whole shad (dead). Catfishing success has been fair with anglers using cutbaits, shad, bluegill and night crawlers fished towards the bottom. Anglers are reporting flatheads in the 20 to 26-inch range. Try fishing the mouths of tributaries along the river and the tailwaters below the Meldahl lock and dam. Try to fish 15 to 20 feet depths adjacent to the deeper channel edge. Early evening until dawn has been good for catfish. Most channel cats are being caught on the bottom using tight-lining techniques with cut bait, night crawlers, and chicken livers. Flathead catfish up to 34 pounds were reported from anglers fishing from midnight to dawn using goldfish as bait.
Monroe reservoir: At least one lucky angler did catch a 35 pound flathead in the tailwaters below the dam.
White river: Some good smallmouth bass being taken on ultra-lite fishing gear. Small spinners and crappie size crankbaits are catching fish. Finally a few good flathead catfish being caught just north of Williams Dam near Bedford. Fish 35 to 45 pounds have been caught using live bluegills. Fish up to 20 pounds being caught between Indianapolis and just south of Martinsville.
Farm Ponds and pits: Bluegill are being caught in farm ponds and pits. Fish are between 5 to 20 feet deep being taken on a Varity of baits. Channel catfish and a few flatheads being caught at night. Best bass fishing is in the early morning hours and at night.
Wabash River: A few Asian carp and a few blue cats being taken. Asian carp are becoming a serious problem for boaters on the Wabash.
Patoka : All fishing is reported to be poor.
Cagles Mill Lake (Lieber SRA), Cataract : Some crappie being caught in 8 to 20 feet deep water. Most are small with a few good ones mixed in.
Good Fishing Everyone. Please make sure to wear those life jackets.
